The FT-817 is a nice mobile radio when used with or without a linear.
The biggest draw back in mobile use is the difficulty is reading the small display.
To resolve this problem a remote display module was designed that will display
frequency, mode, RX/TX and s-meter / power out. The module connects to the FT-817 via
the accessory connector. Once the FT-817 is powered up the display can be enabled
by pressing the display power button. As long as it receives data from the FT-817 i
t will remain on. It turns off when the FT-817 is turned off or it can be turned o
ff manually to conserve battery power. There is also a back light on the display
that is controlled by the second push button. This allows LCD back lighting to be
turned on or off.
